Beatrice Coron - The Cutting Edge
Using historical traditions, we will take a modern, exciting approach to paper cutting. We will create paper images and objects as well as paper plates for printing small editions. We will explore different materials for cutting and experiment with scale, from miniature to installation. The class will also include techniques and methods for stenciling, pop-ups, and composing large paper works. During an intensive session of serious fun, students will discover the incredible variety of contemporary papercutting and the many possible applications of this art form. All levels. Code 01x

April Flanders
April Flanders - Chemistry & Content
Making lithographs is considered by some to be harder than coming up with ideas for your work. This class will help you do both. We will explore the chemical secrets and expressive potential of stone and polyester plate lithography while simultaneously developing the content you are interested in. Working in a collaborative workshop environment, students will create a series of related prints. All levels. Code 02x

Dennis B. O'Neil - Alternative Processes in Screenprinting
Powders, waxes, resists, and adhesives are just part of the alchemy that has transformed screen printing today, bringing it back from the brink of extinction with a new face, new possibilities, and new challenges. Sculptural and relief processes, painterly techniques new to screen printing, and the mystery of the photographic darkroom all find currency today in this process-oriented hybrid new medium. Prior experience will be helpful, but is not necessary. All levels. Code 03x

Session 4
July 5 - July 17

Goedele Peeters - Image, Book, Box
In this workshop, we will pick up images from the environment, translate them into drawings, sketches, watercolors, photographs, etc., and then find a way to express them in printmaking. The end product will be artists' books, made using various printmaking and bookbinding techniques and presented in a handmade boxes. Techniques will include drypoint on PVC, woodcut, monotype, and chine colle, plus adhesive and nonadhesive book structures.We will also consider the relationship of text and image. The workshop will culminate with an exhibition. All levels. Code 04x

Bonnie O'Connell - Perf, Cut, Score, Fold
The Vandercook proof press now celebrates 100 remarkable years facilitating relief-printed text, books, and prints. It also offers opportunities to score, cut, and perforate paper sheets. This workshop explores inventive means of incorporating scored, perforated, and die-cut components into edition prints or books to enable pop-ups, fold-outs, shaped pages, or detachable parts. We will study both commercial and fine art examples and then develop individual projects that combine printing with the interactive, expressive, and sculptural possibilities of paper-engineering techniques. Katherine McCanless Ruffin - Letterpress & Letterforms
Explore typography and page design by creating broadsides with the tools and techniques of traditional printing. Incorporating metal and wood type with hand-cut linoleum letterforms, this class will cover the fundamentals of hand composition and printing with the Vandercook proof press. We will also cover historical perspectives on the art and craft of letterpress and practical tips for pursuing further letterpress work. All levels. Code 06x

August 23 - August 29

Andrew Rubin
Andrew Rubin - Color Intaglio: Alternative Prints
Starting with traditional copper etching plates, we will cover hard and soft ground techniques to put key images on the metal plates. We will then turn to alternative plate-making methods for a second run. We will cover collographs, collage, monotypes, and transfers in making plates that register onto the key image, creating beautiful two-run, multi-color images. Expect lots of colorful prints to take home. All levels. Code 07x
